About the area · DESOTO TX

DeSoto, TX.

Fifteen minutes south of downtown Dallas, with Joe Pool Lake and the cedar ridges still in reach.

The neighborhood

Established streets, pool-and-pavilion backyards.

The house sits on Longleaf Drive in north-central DeSoto, 75115. Established neighborhood, mature trees, two-story brick homes on full-size lots. Quiet residential streets, easy walking, no through traffic.

DeSoto is the southern-Dallas suburb that grew up around Hampton Road and Pleasant Run — close enough to downtown to commute in fifteen minutes, far enough out to have backyards big enough for a pool, a pavilion, and a trampoline. The house has all three.

The lake

Joe Pool Lake — twenty minutes west.

Joe Pool is the recreation anchor for the whole southwest corner of DFW. Cedar Hill State Park covers the eastern shore — 1,800-odd acres with a swimming beach, two boat ramps, a fishing jetty, the DORBA mountain-bike trail, and 350 campsites if your people want to extend the trip. From 806 you take Belt Line west, FM 1382 south, and you're at the gate.

Lynn Creek Park, on the Grand Prairie side, has the best swim beach on the lake — sand volleyball, picnic shelters, kayak rentals when the season's open. Day-use only, March through September.

The city

Downtown Dallas, fifteen minutes north.

I-35E is two miles from the door and the skyline shows up before your podcast finishes an episode. That gets you to Bishop Arts, Oak Cliff, the Sixth Floor Museum, Klyde Warren Park, the Arts District, Deep Ellum BBQ, and the Trinity Groves bridge — basically anything you came to Dallas to see.

Fort Worth is the other way, about 40 minutes via I-20. The Stockyards, the Modern, Magnolia Avenue — same drill. Two cities, one rental.

On the ridge

Three nature preserves within twenty minutes.

The White Rock Escarpment runs just west of DeSoto — a rare ecological seam where Blackland Prairie, Eastern Cross Timbers, and the Texas Hill Country meet on the same ridge. The result is a string of nature preserves that feel a lot farther from Dallas than they are.

Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center holds 200 acres of pristine escarpment habitat, free entry, Wednesday through Saturday. Cedar Ridge Preserve runs nine miles of looping trails through 600 acres of hill country, also free. Closer to home, the DeSoto Town Center park sits on Pleasant Run with the outdoor amphitheater, the library, and the rec center all on the same block.

Getting around

You'll want a car.

DeSoto is a driving town. Uber and Lyft both work fine — pickup from the house is typically five to ten minutes — but the lake, the parks, downtown Dallas, and DFW Airport are all easier in your own car or a rental. DFW is about 30 minutes via I-20 and 360, Dallas Love Field is about 20 minutes via I-35E.

The house has a two-car garage, two extra spots in the driveway, and quiet residential street parking beyond that. If you're rolling deep, nobody fights for a spot.
